SUNDAY SCHOOL
I recently read an article about a global study focusing on what makes us flourish in the human community. One important finding stood out: “People who go to religious services once a week or more typically reported higher scores in all areas of flourishing, particularly happiness, meaning, and relationships. This finding was true in almost every country…” [https://www.sciencealert.com/giant-global-survey-identifies-what-makes-humans-flourish] I believe our Sunday School program is integral to this flourishing!
Each year a dedicated group of volunteers shares their time and a multitude of talents to nurture and shepherd our children as part of our vibrant Sunday School program. Our mission is simple, yet deeply profound: create a welcoming space where each child feels loved, affirmed and included. It is also a sacred space where teachers and students learn and grow together. It is about building relationships and community through Jesus’ love; it is about finding meaning and joy. This is how we flourish.
As we prepare for a new school year, we also want to offer our deepest thanks to Silvia Hall, our Summer Sunday School Coordinator. Silvia and various volunteers truly made the Sundays in summer a special time for children, continuing the good work done throughout the school year. This year’s theme focused on “The Bread of Life”. The children wondered about bread, how it symbolizes goodness, kindness, and community, and how Jesus is the Bread of Life. (Scroll down to read Silvia’s reflection about Summer Sunday School.)
During our annual parish picnic this Sunday, August 17th, we will have our Sunday School information and registration table in the Courtyard. Stop by to chat, register your children, and find out more about our programs. You can also register any time online on our website at https://www.stgregorysepiscopal.org/sunday-school-registration-form.
Classes start the following Sunday, August 24th at 9:45 am with our “Meet & Greet Day” (Note: Confirmation Class starts at 9:10 am in the Conference Room!)
I am deeply grateful for all our dedicated and faithful teachers and our amazing, curious, and inspiring students. We are ready for another joy-filled year!
In Christ’s Name,
Anita Sherman
