Our mission in Youth Ministry is to learn about and live out our four guiding principles (our four “ships”): Worship, Discipleship, Stewardship, and Fellowship. We use these guiding principles to light our path as we seek to follow Christ in building Beloved Community and to live into our faith statement:
+ I am a beloved child of God.
+ I am a member of the Body of Christ.
+ I have a unique calling and purpose in this world.
+ We pray, play, talk, serve, wonder, and learn together as we seek to follow Christ’s example to love God and love others.
+ We affirm that we are all beloved, chosen, and called by God. We welcome everyone in the name of Jesus!
WHAT TO EXPECT: ALL ARE WELCOME!
We celebrate that our young people are curious, energetic, creative, thoughtful, and everything in between! We welcome everyone’s uniqueness and aspire to love everyone as fellow members of the Body of Christ.
On Sunday mornings, we offer two opportunities for young people: our Confirmation class and our Upper Room Time for Teens (keep scrolling for more info!)
Beyond Sunday mornings, our Youth Group is active, having fun and sharing life together in Christ. You might find us taking a weekend trip, working on a creative project, serving in our church or community, participating in a mental health program or other learning opportunity, or just hanging out and enjoying games in our fabulous Youth Room.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of where they are in their faith journey. We look forward to welcoming you!
MEET ANITA SHERMAN
Youth and Young Adult Program Coordinator
Anita is passionate about engaging teens and young adults in exploring life in Christ, affirming their unique gifts in the church and in the world, and being a fellow learner and companion on the journey.
Confirmation Class: Life in Christ
Each Sunday morning during the program year at 9:10 am, for all young people who desire to be confirmed.
Our journey to Confirmation for young people is a three-year program. Our program seeks to nurture the faith of our young people as they prepare for their high school years and beyond, giving them a solid foundation for a Christ-centered life. The Confirmation Class experience may also include retreats, mission trips, pilgrimages, and ministry internships whenever possible. All young people in grades 6, 7 and 8 can participate in and benefit from this class, regardless of whether or not they choose to be confirmed. Older teens, those transferring from other churches, or any others who are interested are most welcome to participate as well.
During Confirmation, we explore:
-- The Bible and the stories that shape our life and faith
-- A life of prayer and worship led by and replenished by the Holy Spirit -- A life of ministry and service as disciples of Jesus
-- The Anglican/Episcopal tradition in all its breadth and depth
UPPER ROOM TIME FOR TEENS
Conversation, Reflection and Prayer -- with lots of Fun and Fellowship!
Upper Room Time meets at 9:45am in the Youth Room during the program year.
All teens 6th - 12th grade are warmly invited to join us! All are welcome!
WHAT DO WE DO DURING UPPER ROOM TIME?
Following a format of Pause, Listen, Reflect, Pray and Go, we work on a theme each year that affirms our core identity as children of God who are beloved, chosen and called.
Our themes in recent years:
2023 - 2024: What will you do with your one wild and precious life? (based on Mary Oliver's poem The Summer Day)
2024 - 2025: What makes you come alive? (from a quote by theologian and civil rights leader Howard Thurman)
2025 - 2026: Building Beloved Community In conjunction with St. Gregory's church-wide Beloved Community initiative we worked on how our lives and gifts reflect God's love in the world.
Theme for 2026-2027 -- "I matter. I belong. I love.”
We will delve more deeply into our core identity statement:
+ I am a beloved child of God.
+ I am a member of the Body of Christ.
+ I have a unique calling and purpose in this world.
As we have in the past, we continue to use some Benedictine practices to bring more balance, proportion and harmony into our lives.
