SERAPHIC FIRE CONCERT: THE ENLIGHTENMENT FESTIVAL - BACH: COFFEE & WEDDING CANTATAS
Feb

4:00 PM16:00

SERAPHIC FIRE CONCERT: THE ENLIGHTENMENT FESTIVAL - BACH: COFFEE & WEDDING CANTATAS

Johann Sebastian Bach, patron saint of music and composer of countless masterpieces, had a deep and abiding love of coffee. Born the same year that coffee houses began to sprout in the German-speaking lands (1685), Bach’s life was often entwined with the history of the world’s favorite caffeinated beverage, so much so that he even wrote a miniature comedy, the Coffee Cantata, as a tongue-in-cheek nod to coffee addition. Soprano Margot Rood stars as the caffeine-entranced daughter of a overly-concerned father, sung by baritone Steven Eddy. Narrated by tenor Patrick Muhleise, the Coffee Cantata is Bach at his most human, a jokester, a comedian. Concert will also include Bach’s ravishing Wedding Cantata and works by Claudio Monteverdi. Patrick Dupré Quigley conducts. Click HERE to purchase tickets for this wonderful Seraphic Fire concert event.

BEN'S WISDOM CIRCLE

BEN'S WISDOM CIRCLE

WEDNESDAYS / 6:30PM / LED BY FR. BEN THOMAS / LIBRARY

Beginning Wednesday, January 22nd, Father Ben will be teaching Cynthia Bourgeault's book The Meaning of Mary Magdalene: Discovering the Woman at the Heart of Christianity. You can purchase a copy of the book from Fr. Ben.

Mary Magdalene appears 12 times in the gospels, more than most apostles. And she is recorded by all four gospels as being the first witness to the resurrection, as well as a witness to his crucifixion and burial. She stuck by Jesus, when most didn't, through the very end and witnessed his new beginning as the risen Christ. So much old literature has Mary trapped as a possessed prostitute, but history and even the very Bible itself proves this characterization to be completely false. With that in mind, we will be getting to know the real Mary Magdalene through the eyes of scripture as the beloved apostle's apostle and the model of Unitive Wisdom and Redemptive Love. Please join me this year in both 33 Minutes (Sunday, January 19) and my Wednesday night Wisdom Circle beginning at 6:15 pm for exploration.

:33 MINUTES WITH BEN THOMAS

SUNDAYS / 9:10AM / LED BY FR. BEN THOMAS / LIBRARY

This group will be discussing Richard Rohr's new book the Universal Christ “Love is the energy that sustains the universe, moving everything toward resurrection.” Fr. Richard Rohr’s work took root in St. Gregory’s long before I was called here, but I am delighted to amplify his voice. This program year we are diving into his latest book; The Universal Christ: How a Forgotten Reality Can Change Everything We See, Hope For, and Believe. To aid us in this discussion, we will also use the podcast that accompanies the book, called Another Name for Every Thing. I will post a link on Facebook to each podcast every Wednesday for you to listen to that will help facilitate our discussion on Sunday mornings as we read the book together. All are welcome to join these groups as we take a deep dive into resourcing the ancient roots of Christianity in order to take it into the present and future. LISTEN TO PODCAST
