THE DIOCESAN CONVENTION
Our weekly making a difference story usually features an individual or a ministry group, however, today's story features an annual gathering—the convention of the Diocese of Southeast, Florida. Our diocese, which extends from Key West to Stuart, in Martin County along the east coast of Florida, includes:
76 churches throughout six regions including the Keys, North and South Dade, Broward, and North and South Palm Beach
276 clergy ministering to over 33,000 parishioners
A variety of diocesan ministries and outreach programs, including our Immigration and Social Justice Ministry
18 schools educating thousands of children Grades PreK-12
Every October, clergy and lay delegates from every congregation gather to, in the words of beloved prayer, "take council for the mission of the church."
We are blessed because this gathering takes place at the Chapel of St. Andrew, located on the campus of St. Andrew's Episcopal School here in Boca Raton. Visitors are welcome to witness the proceedings, tour the ministry display areas and participate in the special workshops. The highlight every year for me is the convention Eucharist on Friday evening when we gather as a diocesan family to worship God.
The convention begins Friday, October 17 at 1 pm. The convention Eucharist begins at 5:30 pm on Friday night. The convention resumes on Saturday morning at 8:30 am with Morning Prayer with workshops, including one featuring the South Florida Haiti Project, which I will lead, at 10 am. To learn more and for all the details, go to our diocesan website: wwwdiosef.org.
Please pray for the convention and experience it in person as the mission of the Episcopal Church is renewed by the power of the Holy Spirit. What a difference God makes!
In Christ,
Andrew+
