THE VESTRY OF ST. GREGORY'S

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

THE VESTRY OF ST. GREGORY'S

Each year at our Annual Meeting, the congregation elects four members to serve three-year terms on the vestry, the church’s governing board. In the Episcopal tradition, the vestry serves as the legal representative of the congregation, overseeing its corporate property and supporting the church’s mission through various responsibilities.

The primary responsibilities of the vestry are:

· Governance and Representation: The vestry acts as the legal representative of the parish in all matters concerning its corporate property and governance. This includes making decisions about the church's operations and ensuring compliance with church laws and regulations.

· Financial Management:  The vestry is responsible for managing the parish's finances, including budgeting, fundraising, and overseeing expenditures. They ensure that standard business methods are followed in financial matters.

· Clergy Support and Leadership Selection: The vestry plays a crucial role in selecting the rector and other clergy members. They assist in the calling process and provide support to the clergy in their ministry.

· Mission and Vision Development: The vestry helps define and articulate the mission of the

congregation, ensuring that the church's activities align with its spiritual goals. They are involved in planning and organizing church programs and initiatives.

· Maintenance of Church Property: The vestry is responsible for the care and maintenance of church facilities, ensuring that the physical space supports the church's mission and activities.

· Community Engagement: Vestry members are expected to engage with the congregation, fostering a sense of community and encouraging participation in church life. They may also represent the parish in diocesan matters.

· Spiritual Leadership: The vestry's work is grounded in spiritual leadership, emphasizing the importance of prayer and reflection in their decision-making processes. They are encouraged to create a community that supports the spiritual growth of its members. If you are interested in serving on the vestry, below is a link to the vestry information packet which includes the application. The deadline for nominations is Thursday, January 15.

As we prepare to elect four new vestry members at the end of the month, I would like to extend special thanks to Bill Lintz, who has served as Senior Warden for the past three years, and to Jeff Miller, Ed Bell, and Karen Guzik for their faithful service. They have been a gift to the church and to me. Well done, good and faithful servants. You have made a difference!

In Christ,

Andrew+
