SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER AND THE BURNING OF THE PALMS
This coming week, our Lenten journey begins. The final preparation prior to starting the journey is our joyous Mardi Gras traditional pancake supper, followed by the burning of the palms. Pancakes for supper! What could be a more joyous way to feast before we embrace the spiritual rigors of Lent? It's a family-friendly night with games for the children and tasty food for all. Join us. We conclude the celebration by gathering palms from last year's Palm Sunday. During the holy bonfire, we incinerate last year's holy palms, which then become part of the ashes placed on foreheads on Ash Wednesday. I always find this solemn moment to be the threshold event as we prepare to walk with Jesus into the wilderness and confront, with grace, all that would lead us away from God and God's love, and to remember humbly that "dust we are, and to dust we shall return."
I'm ready for this renewing journey. I hope you are too!
In Christ,
Andrew+
