ST. GREGORY'S, THE CULTURAL AND SACRED HUB OF ARTS AND SERVICE
On March 14, St. Gregory’s hosted a musical event that helped to shape the musical lives of several young South Florida Jr. High and High School musicians as they competed in the National Society of Arts and Letters High Brass Competition. The National Society of Arts and Letters is a nonprofit organization founded in 1944, dedicated to supporting and encouraging young emerging artists in the United States. Through competitions, scholarships, and career opportunities, NSAL helps talented individuals in music, drama, dance, visual arts, and literature take the next step toward professional success. Each year, local chapters hold competitions in various artistic disciplines, and the winners advance to a national competition, where they compete for significant awards and professional recognition. The winner will now proceed to the National Competition in Little Rock, May 14-16.
Our newly renovated sanctuary with its superb acoustics and our beautifully restored Steinway grand piano led to St. Gregory’s being considered so when I was approached by Lynn University Piano Faculty member Lisa Leonard about the possibility of St. Gregory’s being available to host this event, I immediately said yes!
As we continue to broaden our relationships among the arts communities here in Boca Raton and South Florida, we can be proud of the fact that we are now a premier venue, not only for professional performance ensembles and soloists, but for young performers such as these with the NSAL. Unique performance opportunities such as this make a huge difference in the musical lives of these young aspiring musicians and they will remember their time in our space for years to come.
