THE OFFICE OF BISHOP AND BISHOP EATON

Bishops serve as chief shepherds for a diocese and all its institutions. In our diocese, that means congregations and schools. When recently asked the basic question "What do bishops do?”, Bishop Eaton replied that his job is to help our Episcopal congregations and schools flourish. I have had the joy of serving alongside Bishop Eaton for over thirty years. Earlier in our ministry careers, we served alongside each other as rectors in the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania.

Bishop Eaton is a gifted pastor who deeply cares for the clergy. He is a gifted liturgist who embodies the Anglican tradition's holy insight that good worship and faithful prayer shapes good and life-giving theology. In the service for the ordination of a bishop, this is described as guarding the faith and doctrine of the Episcopal Church. Furthermore, Bishop Eaton is well-known and valued in the decision-making process in the wider Church and dynamically active in Christian ecumenical dialogue as well as in interfaith conversation.

Bishop Eaton and his lovely wife Kate, who is a creative liturgist in her own life of ministry and leadership, have recently marked ten notable years of serving in our diocese. We are grateful for their presence among us and for the difference they make in the life of our beloved diocese and in the Episcopal Church.

In Christ,

Fr. Andrew+
